5 Tips for a Productive Morning.

I don't know about you, but my mornings are my safe haven.

Between the hours of 6am & 7am, it feels like just about the only time of the day that I truly feel like I can appreciate stillness and find time to reflect and plan.

Finding time in the morning has been a major act of obedience for me.

Skipping the snooze button, and lifting my body out of bed before my eyes even open has not been easy. But it has been so worth it.

Below are 5 tips that I use in my own life to ensure that my mornings are spent well and give me the direction & confidence that I need for the day.

1. Don't hit snooze & wake up early!

Yep, I said! The snooze button is not your friend. This tip alone has been a game-changer for me. Studies show that hitting the snooze button actually makes you more tired, disrupts your sleep cycle, and delays your ability to wake up feeling energized.

I'm not making this up!

Do not hit the snooze button. Try it for me, just for 5 days.

If you're really up for a challenge, set your alarm 15 minutes earlier than you usually do & see what happens!

2. Prep your coffee the night before

I cannot tell you how much time & energy I have saved by prepping my coffee before I go to sleep at night. Trust me, I'm not alone on this one. I shared this tip with a coaching client of mine, and she said it worked like a charm for her too.

The less decisions you have to make in the morning, the more focused you will be.

It's really pretty simple. Try it! Get your coffee grinds ready in the coffee pot before you hit the hay. Have your coffee mug out on the counter waiting for you before you rise in the morning.

Knowing that my coffee is just about ready when I wake up, gives me that much more to look forward to when my eyes open in the morning.

3. Read scripture, pray, find 3 minutes of silence

Everyone's morning routine is different, I get that. But if you don't follow any of the other tips, I guarantee this is the most crucial. When we give our day up to God, He promises to work it out for our good.

If this is hard for you, choose scripture that you love to read or a devotional to guide you.

A few of my favorite verses include:

Psalm 91: 9-16

Isaiah 55: 3-12

Ephesians 4: 1-4

I personally love to write out my prayers in a notebook or journal.

3 minutes of silence will allow you to find stillness that might not come the rest of the day. Which brings us to the last 2 tips...

4. Write down 3 goals you want to accomplish that day

This is a new one for me, and I am obsessed. My head can get so cluttered with all of my "to-do's" that I feel like I never accomplish anything by the end of the day, when in fact I've accomplished a whole heck of a lot.

If you're thinking, "heck yes!", take this tip to heart.

Get your pen & paper ready. Write down 3 goals that you want to accomplish for the day.

For example:

1. Pay the comcast bill

2. Run 1 mile

3. Cook dinner for my family

Keep it simple.

P.S. you can do this for both your personal & professional life.

5. Write down 1 thing you are grateful for

This is HUGE! Gratitude is gold. God loves when we approach him with grateful hearts.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Finding gratitude for the little things can shift your perspective (and mood) in an instant.

I am all about starting small. Personal growth and changing your life is not a simple task. If this feels overwhelming, that's okay!

Choose 1 tip and just go with it. See what positive changes you notice in your life. If one doesn't work for you, try another. You know YOU best.

Cheers to taking your mornings back!
