Top 5 productivity hacks.

Discovering ways to be more productive have most definitely changed my life for the BETTER & I want to share with you my top tips!

Here are 5 tips that I've used in my own life to be more productive, to find more time, and to use that time well.

#1 Clean out your space

"Looking at too many things at once overloads your visual cortex and interferes with your brain’s ability to process information", the Journal of Neuroscience reports. This means that having your mail, dirty dishes, books, pots and pans, clothes, etc. sprawled out around your house causes your brain to actually focus and process information less swiftly. Having a cluttered home, office, bedroom, etc. is absolutely tied to stress and stress depletes your energy and your ability to effectively get things done.

The less decisions that you have to make in a single day, the more focused and attentive your mind will be. Take away the distractions, girl! Start small. Maybe today you clean up your desk area, tomorrow you tackle the closest, and on, and on.

Less mess = more space to grow, think, and impact.

#2 Focus on short periods of major productivity & set aside the time to do it

I got this idea from one of my new favorite books, The 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris. If I took anything away from that book, it was how to tackle my to-do list in a timely and efficient way where I am focused and present the entire time. Tim Ferris outlines a new way to productivity by focusing on tasks in a condensed, short time period. The goal here is to set short deadlines. When I started setting shorter deadlines for myself, such as, finishing editing my book in 2 hours, I started meeting my deadlines and actually getting MORE done. A big part of this is setting aside the time to do it, or if you're married, or have kids - asking for the time.

For me, this looked like talking to my husband and sharing my goals with him. Having a conversation like, "Hey babe, I have this big goal to finish my book by next month and today I'm going to need 2 hours to edit the whole dang thing. Can I have that time outside of the house and then I'll be home to cook dinner by 7pm?".

Ask for what you need, share your dreams, and then focus yourself on what you've set out to do.

#3 Make a list before you go to bed

I am a list maker, I don't know about you, but getting my ideas out of my head has helped me so much in life. Whether this be a list for work, or a list of my life, I write it all down. I highly suggest you do the same!

Don't worry the next steps will help you to sort and organize your list, but you've got to start somewhere. Get it out of your head and on to paper.

#4 Organize your tasks by importance

This is one of my favorites! Brian Tracy wrote a book called, Focal Point, that I've read countless times. One of the best tips that I've taken away from this book is to organize my task list by importance. Brian Tracy suggests organizing your list alphabetically.

For example:

A. Pay the Comcast bill

B. Respond to personal emails

C. Call the doctor to schedule appointment

D. Write thank you notes

E. Vacuum the house

Try it!
